A group, The Conscience of Yoruba Nation, says on a day like this, they remember such worthy sons as, Colonel Francis Adekunle Fajuyi, Colonel Ibrahim Adetunji Taiwo, Lt. Colonel Akintunde Akinsehinwa, Brigadier Samuel Ademolegun, Colonel Victor Adebukola Banjo, Colonel Ralph Shodeinde, saying they are ‘our unforgettable heroes.”

In a release signed by convener, Abagun Kole Omololu, the group maintained, “They are the heroic sons of the Yoruba nation, who were in the Nigerian Armed forces and were brutally murdered in the line of duty. Heroes, who died serving our Country Nigeria. Brave Soldiers whose bloods remain the mortar that binds the bricks of the Nigerian nation building.”

They noted that although all died at different dates and on varying circumstances, “The conscience of Yoruba Nation” stops to remember those brave, exceptional and courageous Yoruba military heroes, who lost their lives in service to the nation in the era of Military coup and counter coup.”

It added that accolades “forever flows from our hearts and across social and traditional media. Apart from their great bravery and sacrifices that have bequeathed them both fame and recognition across the globe, they were our sons, fathers, brothers, colleagues, dear friends, husbands and more.”

The Conscience of Yoruba Nation, stressed that those military heroes “were gifts to us and we hold them in a status reserved solely for the elites and extraordinary; a place in our heart and history that can only be occupied by few special people. We remember today as always.”

CoYN remarked that when “people are taken from our lives, particularly before their time, in a manner out of the natural order of events, the impact is devastating. Like Children dying before their parents, parents or partners dying too young, siblings and close friends taken too soon, generations unborn feel its negative ripple effects.”

They therefore concluded that “these precious people may not have reached the level of icons or celebrities in the eyes of the world but in our eyes, they have surpassed all of that, they are heroes, our fallen heroes.”
