Armed bandits on Sunday evening attacked communities of Unguwar Dan-Baki, Sabon-Layi village in Birnin-Gwari local government area of Kaduna State.

The attackers, who stormed the village at about 7:00p.m. killed three persons and abducted two nursing mothers, one of them an infant of eight days old and five men.

Confirming the incident to newsmen in Kaduna yesterday, chairman, Birnin-Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance, Ibrahim Abubakar Nagwari, called on the Federal Government to deploy more troops to the area.

According to him, "as the military and police personnel are advancing to secure many parts of our territories from armed bandits and kidnappers, especially along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna road and Birnin-Gwari-Funtua road, we are calling on the Federal Government to deploy more security forces to Birnin-Gwari to prevent the influx of armed bandits escaping military onslaught in Zamfara State to the area."

An eyewitness, Garba Tanko, said: "We were attacked as we are about joining Maghreb (evening) prayers. The attackers had a field day and carted away cattle used for animal traction by the villagers in their farms.

"The attackers are using the corridors of Kamuku Forest and Kuyambana Forest in Zamfara State to terrorize farming communities in Birnin-Gwari local government area.”

Meanwhile, Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Muktar Aliyu, did not respond to calls put across to him to confirm the incident, neither did he respond to text messages sent to his mobile phone as at the time of filing this report.

When contacted on phone, the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State command, Mr. Austin Iwar, told newsmen that he is not around and therefore did not know anything about the reported attack.

In another development, a motor saw operator, Samson Tueei, who allegedly slashed the stomach of a Baale (village head) with a motor saw, was on Monday arraigned at the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

Tueei, 60, of Sore Community in Takwa Bay, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of assault and infliction of bodily harm.

Prosecuting police officer, Sgt. Godspower Ehizoba, alleged that the defendant committed the offences at 7:45p.m. on July 19, at Sore Community in Takwa Bay.

He said the incident occurred following a dispute between Tueei and the complainant, Mr. Gani Thomas, over who should be the community’s head. The stool was, however, given to Thomas.

“The defendant assaulted the Baale, Gani Thomas, by stabbing his stomach with a motor saw,” the prosecutor said.

According to him the offence contravened sections 170(2) and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and punishable under same.

Tueei pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate T.A. Idowu granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till October 11.

In Nasarawa State, a human rights activist, one Raheem, has called on security agencies to diligently investigate and prosecute the suspect involved in a rape case.

A 13-year-old girl was raped and impregnated by her father in the state.

In a bid to cover up the family disgrace, mother of the victim allegedly poisoned her but fortunately she was rush to the hospital and survived the poison though she lost the pregnancy.

Raheem, who shared the story of the girl’s pathetic case on his Facebook page, pleaded that the issue should by referred to a humanitarian organization that would pursue the case to a logical conclusion.

He added that though both parents have been arrested by the police, the girl is still in a general hospital seeking proper medical attention.
