Former UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe

Vice chancellors of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Mountain Top University, Ogun State, and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have canvassed the use of technology to address pressing national issues.

UNILAG VC, Professor Toyin Ogundipe, declared the institution’s readiness to respond to diseases and epidemics in Nigeria, such as Ebola, Zika and HIV using technology.

Ogundipe, who was represented by the deputy VC (Academic), Professor Oluwole Familoni, made this known yesterday in a press briefing held at the Senate building Conference Hall on the July 23, 2018 pro-chancellor’s inaugural lecture.

VC of LAUTECH, Professor Adeniyi Gbadegesin, said LAUTECH “places premium on adequate information of weather to everybody”, assuring that dividends of the weather station would be manifest in a very short time.

He was speaking after the Director-General of Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Sani Mashi, donated a weather station to the university.

In a related development, the VC of Mountain Top University, Prof. Elijah Ayolabi, urged the Federal Government to embrace science and technology to drive development and ensure the country overcomes its pressing challenges, including insurgency.

He made the call yesterday during the university’s fourth inaugural lecture held at its Multi-Purpose Hall, in Ibafo, Ogun State.

According to him, the 21st century requires that national development must be driven by science and technology.
