The Managing Director, Management Education and Training Limited, (MET) Mr. Bamidele Omotosho has stressed the need for Nigerians to pursue international education to make them competitive in the global market.

Speaking at the ‘Best and Brightest 2018 Scholars Award’ in Lagos, Omotosho noted that many employers prefer to employ graduates that attend school abroad, adding that the skills acquired by such students could be used to develop the country.

’”International Education is not unique to Nigeria; it has been a universal performance for centuries. Virtually all the developed countries encourage many of their students to attend universities in other countries to learn the diversity of education. In the United States, most of the universities send some of their students for exchange programmes in other institutions and they also attract students from other countries to attend their universities to boost academic innovation.”

“However, this is not the only reason why Nigerians go for international education; the major reason is because of the poor quality of some academic programmes particularly engineering and medicine. Apart from this, the administration of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is not favourable to many.

Our unstable political system has been the major reason why the quality of our universities is decaying. In the past, our major universities have global reputation.

Specifically, he added that ‘money is not our major reason for being in international education. Many Nigerians have the ability, but don’t have the opportunity. What we are trying to give them is the opportunity.  We are specialist for International Education in United States and we are expanding our academic locations in Festac, Akure and Ikorodu. We remain professional and reliable.

To boost the admission and visa processing for Nigerian students, Omotosho said MET has introduced new programmes for secondary school students to visit United States before their Senior Secondary School 3 classes to boost their chances.

Omotosho who disclosed that about 2,500 students have gone to the United States through MET enjoined current students to work hard and get the best score in the examination.

On his part, the personal assistant to the Managing Director, Adedoyin Akinboye said the award is to allow brilliant students who do not have the financial capability to have access to international education.
