The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) yesterday embarked on a peaceful protest in Osogbo, against alleged neglect of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso by the governments of Osun and Oyo.

The protesters carried placards bearing various inscriptions and addressing reporters after the protest, coordinator of Akure zone of ASUU, Alex Odiyi, lamented that the neglect of LAUTECH had brought sleepless nights for the union.

He said that the protests, simultaneously staged in Osun and Oyo States were aimed at drawing the attention of the two owner states to their responsibilities.
Odiyi who led other coordinators and branches chairpersons including FUTA, UNIBEN, FUOYE, OAU, UNIOSUN, AAU, EKSU, among others, said the neglect of the University has led to a decay of infrastructure in the institution.

He alleged that the governments have reneged on the Memorandum of Agreement signed with the union before the last strike was called off. The union noted that apart from non-payment of salaries and arrears, the two state Governors, Rauf Aregbesola and Abiola Ajimobi, have also refused to make necessary funds available for effective running of the University. He recalled how their predecessors have sustained and maintained the University noting, "It is unfortunate that the two state governors have allowed things to degenerate to the current level.

He said they would not relent in their effort to draw public attention to the unholy conduct of the owner states. LAUTECH, branch secretary of the union, Toyin Abegunrin, expressed sadness over what he described as "intentional neglect of education sector by the government of Oyo and Osun States.”
