The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa state Mr Austin Iwar.

The new Bayelsa Police Commissioner, Austin Iwar, yesterday, read riot acts to criminals and perpetrators of violence, saying the police will no longer tolerate deliberate acts with intent to breach peace.

Speaking against the backdrop of recent violent clash, which claimed three lives and injured many others in Brass local government area, the commissioner said the police would deal decisively with violent offenders, miscreants and other acts of aggression against the state.

The Police boss disclosed that some suspects were already cooling their heels in police custody in connection with the clash, while a team of mobile police had been sent to restore order.

He said: “As we strive to ensure that Bayelsa State enjoys acceptable peace and security, measures will be taken to frustrate and reduce disturbing activities of cultists and criminals to rid the state of their menace.

“In this regard, a robust strategy will be adopted to create awareness on personal safety, as well as rid our state of the menace of cultists and other related violent gangs.”

The commissioner equally decorated 36 Inspectors, who were promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), charging them to exhibit utmost discipline, resourcefulness, diligence and professionalism.
