Amid intrigues in the build-up to the 2019 elections, religious leaders have advised Nigerians to shun violence and vote for those who merit the positions they contest.

New Bishop of Lagos Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rev. Humphrey Olumakaiye, urged the electorate to cast their votes for credible persons.

Addressing journalists shortly after the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, visited him in Lagos yesterday, he expressed concern over the level of greed in the corridors of power.

Olumakaiye said: “We should go back to the ancient path of obedience, dignity of labour, honesty, fear of God, love and faithfulness to God.

By the time we walk in righteousness, the beauty of holiness will manifest in our lives and the society will be better for everyone to live.”

According to him, when we have absolute faith in the word of God, there will be a major change in the country.

The cleric admonished leaders to lead the country in the path of righteousness, shun greed and fear God.

He also urged them to allow the youths to lead the country.

“They should try to give the younger generation a chance to use their talents for the development of this nation.

We need fresh ideas. We need people to move the country forward. Enough of recycling bad leaders; it would not help the country.”

In the same vein, Archbishop of Church of God Mission (CGM) International, Margaret Benson-Idahosa, has called on politicians to avoid do-or-die politics by allowing the wishes of Nigerians to prevail in 2019.

When members of the Correspondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, visited her office on her 75th birthday, Idahosa stressed the need for peace and fairness during the election, urging Nigerians to play politics according to the rules.
