The erstwhile governor of Kogi State and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has debunked reports alleging plans of imposing his sons, Abubakar Idris and Muhammed Idris on the party, as governorship and House of Representatives candidates, respectively, for the 2019 PDP primary elections.

This was contained in a statement signed by his media team, where he claimed that the reports, sponsored by his political opponents, are untrue and concoctions from the pit of hell.

The statement read in parts: “The attention of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, CON, former governor of Kogi State and chieftain of the PDP has been drawn to one of such reports containing spurious allegations against him in a section of the media.

“In the report, which appeared in some national dailies, Alhaji Idris is accused of a plot to impose his children and stooges as candidates of the party instead of allowing free and fair primary as prescribed by law.

“It is curious that the only authority cited for the report is a source that preferred not to be named. Of course, the report is completely untrue and a figment of the imagination of its sponsors, with the sole aim of bringing the former governor to public ridicule and generating bad blood within the opposition PDP, which he has a rear privilege to lead.

“We therefore, wish to clarify as follows: that Alhaji Idris is a successful businessman and respected politician with tremendous respect for democratic ethos, dialogue and teamwork. These were credentials that set aside his nine years in public office for unequalled peace, cohesion and development in the state.”
