The remains of former Personal Assistant to former Gov. Segun Oni and a Commissioner in the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Bunmi Ojo was on Friday interred in his hometown Ido Ekiti, Headquarters of Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State. Ojo was shot dead by unknown gunmen at a football viewing centre in Adebayo area of Ado Ekiti on Friday, August 10, 2018 by yet to be identified gunmen.

While the burial lasted, all markets in the town were closed while many public offices were deserted as a mark of honour for the departed politician and activist.The community was locked down as sympathisers from all parts of the country thronged the Methodist Church, Ido Ekiti venue of the funeral service.

The burial was also attended by the deceased political mentor, Chief Segun Oni; the Governor-Elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose was represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Chief Dipo Anisulowo.

In his sermon, the presiding cleric, Rev. Olanrewaju Komolafe while speaking at the funeral service, described death as an inevitable occurrence, which would be the lots of everyone.

Reading from the book of Ecclesiastic chapter 3, Komolafe said there was time for everything including time to be born and also time to die, adding that, the late Bunmi Ojo, though died when least expected, had fulfilled the purpose of life.He charged families, relatives, political parties and acquaintances present at the event to live a life worthy of emulation just like the late Ojo did, stressing that death had no regard for anyone or social status, and could come in any form.

Scores of Women sympathisers took over the outside environment of the church raining curses on Ojo’s killers, while the church service was on. They intermittently disrupted the church service with songs laced with abuses and curses while they were also dressed in an unusual manner contrary to normal church practice as they turned their clothes upside down and also removed head gears.

Other dignitaries who witnessed the funeral service included the Ekiti state Deputy-Gov. Elect, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, wife of former Gov. Segun Oni, Kemi and former Deputy -Gov. Sikiru Lawal. Present also were former Minister of State for Works, Dayo Adeyeye, Sen. Bode Ola, Sen. Tony Adeniyi and chairman of the Ekiti state chapter of All Progressive Congress, (APC) and his former colleagues at the Federal Character Commission among others from various political parties.
