Nigeria's Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday met with the newly appointed Acting Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Matthew Seiyefa, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Seiyefa, picked as replacement for sacked DG, Lawal Musa Daura, after the invasion of the National Assembly by operatives of the secret police, was at the State House ostensibly to receive briefing from the Acting President and left some 45 minutes later.

The new DSS boss, who arrived the Villa in an SUV car, was later chauffeured in a Peugeot 508 model with Lagos plate number, AAA 961 BB. He, however, declined to speak to newsmen.Seiyefa, a member of the National Institute (MNI), hails from Bayelsa State. Until his new appointment yesterday by Osinbajo, he was Assistant DG in the service.

He was also the Director, Institute of Security Studies, Abuja. With over three decades of experience, the new Acting DSS DG has served in different capacities, including being State Director in Osun, Akwa Ibom and Lagos states.

Besides, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has absolved his men of blame in yesterday’s siege, noting that the development came to him as a surprise.

Fielding questions from State House Correspondents after a closed-door meeting with the Acting President, the police chief promised that the force will soon issue a statement on the incident.
