Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has promised to lift rural communities with massive infrastructure if elected.

He specifically promised to bring succour to the people of Iwo and neighbouring communities by reconstructing the Iwo-Osogbo road that has allegedly suffered neglect by past and current administration.

Besides, he promised to commence the reconstruction of the road to Ile-Ogbo, the home town of his strongest opponent in the primary election, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, within the first six months in office.

The head of Media and Public Communication Ademola Adeleke Campaign Organisation, Bamidele Salami, said yesterday in Osogbo, the state capital, that the flag bearer made the promise in Iwo while receiving scores of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) and other political parties into the PDP.

He said Adeleke expressed concern that in spite of the massive support previously enjoyed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Iwo and its environs, the Governor Rauf Aregbesola administration allegedly failed to meet any of the major needs and aspirations of the people in the area.

Adeleke promised to revitalise the economy of Osun State through the implementation of well-thought out programmes.

The state chairman of the PDP, Soji Adagunodo, said the party was set to stem capital flight through promotion of local content in all sectors of the economy.

According to him, one of the reasons for the huge indebtedness of the state and incidents of abandoned projects is Aregbesola administration’s alleged penchant for awarding contracts at inflated costs to non-indigenous contractors.

Ogunbiyi described Adeleke as “God’s chosen vessel to rescue Osun from the misrule of the APC.”

He called on the electorate to be vigilant and ensure that their votes count in the election.

Adeleke and his entourage also visited the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, who prayed for God’s guidance and help for the PDP candidate in his quest to govern the state.

Meanwhile, Adagunodo has urged the civil servants not to be deceived by the recent approval of money to offset part of the 38 months salary arrears being owed by the Aregbesola administration.

He said “the panicky measure by the governor only goes to confirm that the APC is a party of deceit which takes joy in inflicting pains on the poor to make them exploitable during election seasons.”

The PDP wondered why the accumulated salary and allowances of workers which are being hurriedly paid were warehoused in allegedly dubious accounts without being paid for many months.

“We find it very distasteful that a government would be this inhuman to deny poor citizens of their legitimate earnings for close to three years and now turn around to pay part of the arrears in a manner suggesting it was doing them a favour.”
