Senator Alhassan Jumai Aisha.

Shifts governorship primary to September 30
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified two of its aspirants, Hajia Aisha Alhassan and Chief Adebayo Shittu, from participating in the Taraba and Oyo states governorship primary elections.

Alhassan, until recently, was Women Affairs Minister, while Adebayo, who cried foul over the decision by the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) to endorse indirect primaries for the Oyo APC, is the Minister of Communications.

Though the party was mute on its reasons for the disqualification of Alhassan, it advanced Shittu’s failure to partake in the one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme as reason for his disqualification.

The acting national publicity secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena, confirmed the decision to The Guardian, adding that the NWC of the party had rescheduled the governorship primary election to September 30, 2018.

Speaking with reporters after his screening by the Adams Oshiomhole-led NWC in Abuja, yesterday, Shittu claimed that his service at the Oyo State House of Assembly was a much “higher service” compared to that of the NYSC.

On whether he might have violated any law, the minister said: “I don’t see and I’m not worried. Do you see any worry on my face? I don’t think, so except someone has a superior argument and prove it.
