Court

Chief Judge (CJ) of the Federal High Court, Justice Adamu Abdu-Kafarati, has asked judges to ensure that all pending political cases are closed by October ending.

Speaking yesterday during the commencement of 2018/2019 Legal Year for the Federal High Court, Abdu-Kafarati expressed the need to give priority to such cases as may affect any of the political parties to afford all candidates the opportunity to pursue their political ambitions.

He also issued a circular that judges should decline interim ex parte orders in any political case brought before the court.

This, he stated, would forestall blames by political gladiators, adding: “In an attempt to forestall any hiccups and blame on the court by political gladiators, I have issued a circular that interim ex parte orders shall not be granted in any political case brought before the court.

“I believe that controversies, especially in political cases can be reduced when the court takes a decision after hearing all the parties in the case.”

Abdu-Kafarati, therefore, admonished judges to be cautious in handling all such cases, especially those concerning political parties and next year’s general elections.

“We should, again, use the court and the constitution to regulate our society for the good of our children and mankind.

I still believe that the judiciary remains the hope of all people,” he stated.
