Senator Alhassan Jumai Aisha

If I am not qualified to contest election in the All Progressives Congress (APC), I feel I am also not qualified to remain a Minister in an APC government.”

These are the words of Senator Aisha Jumai Alhassan, who recently resigned her appointment as Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, following the injustice she claimed was meted out to her by APC.

The former Minister, who also decamped from APC to the United Democratic Party (UDP), following her disqualification from participating in the party’s governorship primaries, said it has become necessary for her to bow out of APC due to “lack of internal democracy in the party.”

Aisha, alongside her teeming supporters, yesterday, submitted her APC membership card to her ward chairman, Sadiq Abubakar in Saraki Danwaki Ward in Jalingo.

Wondering why APC decided to repay her in a negative way, she said: “I have always been a committed and loyal party member, and was at no time queried or admonished for any wrongdoing or unconstitutional behaviours. So, I received with shock and dismay news that I was disqualified and not cleared to contest the 2019 governorship election by APC’s National Working Committee.”

The former Minister, who went ahead to collect UDP’s governorship form, reiterated her determination to work tirelessly to triumph in the forthcoming governorship election.

Elated by the development, UDP’s state chairman said the party would not tread the path of both APC and PDP, stressing the party’s readiness to provide level playing ground for all aspirants on the party’s platform.

Reacting to the development, APC officials described the minister’s action as “a blessing to APC in Taraba and the country at large.”

APC Public Relations Officer, Aaron Artimas, said her defection “is a great relief to us because most of the problems in our party was caused by her.
