To further promote the girl-child education, Belemaoil Producing Limited, an indigenous oil firm, has sent 10 indigenes of Rivers State to the United Kingdom and Ghana for degree and postgraduate programmes.

The manager, external relations of Belemaoil, Samuel Abel-Jumbo explained that the scheme is under the NNPC/Belemaoil JV 2018/2019 foreign scholarship.Abel-Jumbo who spoke at a farewell session for beneficiaries in Port Harcourt said the scholarship scheme is in fulfilment of the company’s promise and commitment towards the advancement of education within its operational base in Rivers State, Niger Delta and beyond.

He urged the girls to excel in their studies and be responsible ambassadors of Nigeria.He said, “This is the first batch. Others will join as we make progress and hopefully in 2019, we will also continue. We expect that they go out there as responsible ambassadors of the state and the country, complete their studies within record time and come back with excellent results so as to be useful and valuable to the country”.

Abel-Jumbo expressed delight that the opportunity given to the girls would broaden their knowledge and further prepare them for greater responsibilities.Head, Petroleum Engineering and Development of the company, Mr. Sam Dambani enjoined beneficiaries to take their studies seriously to enable them secure a better future.
 
The beneficiaries promised to make good use of the opportunity with the assurance to return and add value to the society.One of them, Precious Ajim, said, “I have always desired to have a foreign degree for my post-graduate study and this is a dream come true, I am grateful to Belemaoil’.Also, Francisca Ibiso from Asari-Toru local government area, said, “I am going for my first degree at the University of Ghana to study Business Finance and I’m very much excited.

While addressing the beneficiaries, the Director, production and engineering, Belemaoil Producing Ltd., Mufaa Welsh, said their performance would be a test case for the sustainability of the overseas scholarship for others.On her part, representative of NNPC/NAPIMS, Mrs. Tolu Adefuwa enjoined the beneficiaries to be focused so as to realize their dreams.
