Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 18 local government areas in Cross River State have called on the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to sanction the Minister for Niger Delta, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani for disobeying constituted authorities.
They said the minister has continually defied the NWC’s decision, which affirms Senator John Owan-Enoh as the state’s duly nominated governorship flag-bearer.
Briefing the press on behalf of the 18 signatories, Dr. Odigha Odigha said Usani went ahead to conduct an unauthorised exercise, after which he unlawfully declared himself the governorship candidate, and should be sanctioned for it.
They said: “We will no longer sit back and allow someone, who brazenly refused to support the party at registration in 2014; someone who said this party was North-driven, someone who, as APC chairman, only attended one gubernatorial campaign rally at Abi Local Government Area out of 18 in the state and could not even stay till the end; someone who brought violence into APC system in Cross River State; someone with a baggage of unsolved indictments to sink our party in his failed inordinate ambition to become governor.”
They also accused Usani of playing a script in order to give incumbent PDP governor a chance to emerge for second term in office, so that he (Usani) could be supported in 2023.
Last week, the Usani group organised a rally in Calabar, insisting that without Usani “there is no APC in the state.”
