This was not opposed by Onine.

But before writing her bench ruling, Chief Magistrate Helen Omisore turned to Ojiekomhan and sought confirmation of the duo’s relationship.

Ojiekomhan replied: “We once lived together as husband and wife but we are now separated. They have charged me to court for child abduction.

“I caught Emeka, who is a driver in my company, sleeping with her in my house.”

She said: “The defendant is hereby granted bail in the sum of N500, 000, with two sureties in the like sum. One of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant, have three years tax certificate payable to the Lagos State government. Both the home and office addresses of the sureties must be verified by the prosecutor.”

METRO: Students, drivers clash in Ekiti over alleged rape

METRO: Students, drivers clash in Ekiti over alleged rape

There was tension in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State,  on Monday as some students and commercial bus drivers engaged in a violent clash over an alleged rape of a female student whose name was not disclosed.

The lady, a 200 level student of the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti, was allegedly raped by a commercial bus driver along College-Igbara Odo way on Sunday.

It was learnt that the victim, said to be battling malaria fever, had gone to a hospital in the town when she was raped by the driver.

Enraged by the action, students of the college on Monday trooped to the streets and fought any commercial driver in sight.

This led to the blockage of the Ado-Ikere-Akure Way, thus disrupting traffic for several hours.

Many passengers were stranded as commuters travelling to Akure had to make a detour and return to Ado Ekiti.

The violence also disrupted commercial activities at the Odo Oja area of Ikere-Ekiti as many of them hurriedly closed shops probably to prevent looting of their wares.

It was gathered that the lady has been taken to hospital for treatment.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Alberto Adeyemi, said the police were on the trail of the driver.

“Yes, the lady was sick and was being conveyed to the college when she was raped. The police don’t tolerate any criminal action in any way and this won’t be an exemption.

“We have launched a manhunt for the man. The police are on his trail and we shall bring him to justice by the grace of God.”

Adeyemi described rape as the highest point of criminality which, he said, would not be tolerated.

He added that normalcy had returned to the town.

METRO: BIZZARE: Wicked couple torture child with hot iron (PHOTO)

METRO: BIZZARE: Wicked couple torture child with hot iron (PHOTO)

A guardian, Mr. ThankGod Madubuchi, and his wife, Juliet, have been arrested by policemen from the Ilupeju division, for allegedly torturing a 10-year-old girl, Chinansa, with a hot iron.

It was learnt that Chinansa was ThankGod’s niece and she had been living with his family at their house on Anjorin Street, Mushin, Lagos State, for some time.

ThankGod and his wife were alleged to have always assaulted the victim over minor offences, as appeals from neighbours fell on deaf ears.

However, matter came to a head on Tuesday, September 5, when the couple used a hot iron to torture the victim.

She was reportedly accused of licking powdered chocolate beverage (tea) without permission.

The couple were said to have locked her up in the house, which drew the attention of residents who alerted officials of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team.

An official of the agency told our correspondent that neighbours attested to the regular abuse of Chinansa.

He said, “The abuse had been going on for a long time. We were informed that in the past, the man’s wife used razor blades to cut her in different parts of the body because she mistakenly tore her (Juliet) clothes. The neighbours didn’t raise the alarm that time because they thought the couple would change until the one that happened on that Tuesday.

“The girl was accused of licking powdered beverage without permission and the man used a hot iron to torture her. He then locked her up in the house without taking her to a hospital. Residents, who feared for the girl’s life, alerted the DSVRT.”

It was learnt that policemen from the Ilupeju division arrested the couple as two officials of the DSVRT and an officer of the Child Protection Unit rescued the victim from the house.

The couple were arraigned before a family court at the Ogba Chief Magistrate’s Court on counts bordering on child abuse.

The defendants, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, were granted bail by the Chief Magistrate, T. Akanbi.

While Juliet was granted bail on self-recognition because she was nursing a  six-month-old baby, the husband was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

A DSVRT survivor advocate, Mrs. Tumininu Oni, appeared in court with the Investigating Police Officer, Inspector Roseline Ilekhue, who was represented by one Inspector James.

The case was adjourned till September 20, 2017.

METRO: Police ‘arrest’ Alsatian dog for robbery in Lagos

METRO: Police ‘arrest’ Alsatian dog for robbery in Lagos

The Dog

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command, have arrested an Alsatian dog named Bullet, for alleged robbery in the Ladipo, Oshodi area of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, during a parade of the dog at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Thursday, said two other robbery suspects, Odunade Olajide and Adeniyi Adisa, sent the dog after their victims.

He explained that in fear, their targets would surrender their belongings.

The CP said after dispossessing the victims of cash and other valuables, the suspects would speed away with the dog on a motorcycle.

He said the men, however, met their Waterloo while attempting to rob a lady of her valuables in Ladipo, as the victim raised the alarm and the suspects were apprehended by the police.

Imohimi noted that their operational motorcycle was also recovered.

He said, “On September 5, 2017, two local criminals, who specialised in robbing people by sending a dog to attack them, were arrested. The suspects would command the Alsatian dog to attack a victim. The dog, in response to the command, would pounce on the person. Gripped with fear, the person would hand over all his belonging to the gang.”

The CP explained that detectives had been on the trail of the suspects, but luck ran out on them last Thursday when they were arrested.

But the suspects denied the allegations, saying they had only gone to buy dog feed when the woman raised a false alarm.

Olajide said the woman eventually found her phone where she kept it, adding that by then it was late as SARS operatives had arrested them.

Also paraded were five suspected killers of a former winner of the Gulder Ultimate Search, Hector Jobarteh.

The suspects – William Igana, Valentine Igana, Abdul-Rasheed Jimoh, Francis Madu, Usman Adeyemi – were alleged to have been involved in the death of the 38-year-old at his house on Olufowora Close, New Oko-Oba, Agege.

It can be recalled hat Jobarteh was shot dead on September 3, 2017, after he was trailed to his home from the airport where he had gone to pick up his younger brother.

The state CP, Imohimi, said the suspects were arrested following painstaking efforts by policemen.

However, one of the suspects, William, a Uber driver that drove the suspects to Jobarteh’s house, said he didn’t know their mission when he was hired.

He noted that he had just started with the online transport company when he was hired by the men who later turned out to be killers.

He said, “I had just been registered under the Uber platform and I needed an android phone to facilitate the business. I called my brother, Valentine, to help me with a phone. He introduced me to his friend, JK. JK said he had a phone I could use, which he offered for sale at N10,000.

“The next day, JK called me to take him to Yaba. On our way there, we stopped and picked two other guys. I charged them N10,000 for the service, but they gave me N8,000 and promised to pay the balance later.”

He said after the trip to Yaba, JK called him the following day and asked him to take him and his friends to Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He said he charged N20,000 for the service, which they promised to pay.

“On our way to Sango, they asked me to stop at a bushy path. They brought out a gun, which they pointed at my head. They threatened to kill me if I shouted. Two of them came down and walked to a house where they shot two persons.

“They jumped back into the vehicle and asked me to drive off, which I did. But at a point, I stopped the car and told them I wasn’t going again; they insisted that I continue driving. JK said the only reason he wouldn’t kill me was because my brother, Valentine, was his good friend.

“I never knew they were into any criminal activity. I was only doing my business. I was arrested by the police through my brother, Valentine.”

Jobarteh’s phone was said to have been stolen by the assailants.

It was learnt that the phone was tracked to Jimoh, who bought it at Computer Village, Ikeja.

In his statement, Jimoh said he never knew the phone was stolen.

He said he had innocently gone to Computer Village to buy a phone, adding that he bought the phone for N15,000 from Madu.

On his part, Madu claimed an engineer friend who came with Adeyemi, sold the phone to him.

He said he bought the phone for N7,500 and sold it for N15,000.

Eighteen-year-old Adeyemi said his uncle, one Ismaila, owned the phone.

Imohimi said the command was making efforts to arrest other suspects, adding that the men would be charged to court at the end of investigations.

METRO: ‘My promotion letter turned to sack letter when my wife appeared to me in dream’

“My wife is a witch, she appears and disappears using her wonder-working powers,” 58-year-old businessman, Olarenwaju Moruf, told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Thursday.

The man, therefore, urged the court to terminate his 17-year marriage, saying, “I am no longer interested in the relationship, as the love I have for her has faded.”

He accused his wife, Fatima, who had a child for him, of witchcraft.

“There was a day my wife appeared physically to me in my hotel room when I travelled to the northern part of the country for a job. I shouted, and she disappeared.

“She keeps appearing and disappearing whenever good things are coming my way. She once appeared to me and my promotion letter turned to sack letter.

“Everywhere I went for a solution, I was told that my wife was behind my predicament and I strongly believe it because I am also a witness to her devilish acts,” he said, accusing his wife of belonging to a cult.

Moruf added:“There was a day I came home unexpectedly to pick what I forgot, I caught my wife holding a meeting with a cult member.

“Fatima brings strange people into our matrimonial home, including a teenager whose father is a herbalist,” Moruf added.

Apart from the witchcraft allegation, the man also said his wife had been threatening to poison him.

Fatima, a 47-year-old trader,  however, denied the allegations, saying “I am not a witch.”

“I am not the one behind my husband’s predicament, my hands are clean; I do not belong to a cult, I am a committed Muslim.”

The respondent pleaded with the court not to grant her husband’s request to dissolve the marriage, insisting, “I still love him.”

The court’s president, Mr. Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case until November 2 for further hearing.

METRO: Man goes to jail for teaching Islam online

A member of a Muslim minority group has been sentenced to two years in a Chinese prison after forming online discussions groups to teach about Islam.

The official website China Judgments Online said Huang Shike was arrested in 2016 in Xinjiang province, three months after forming a discussion group about Muslim worship on the messaging app WeChat.

He taught about the Quran, Islam’s holy book, in another WeChat discussion group.

More than 100 people were members of each group, the website said. Huang is a member of the Hui minority.

The discussion groups “disturbed normal religious activity” and violated laws about using the internet to discuss religion, the website said.

Chinese authorities have steadily tightened controls on Xinjiang, where they believe radical Islamic thought has infiltrated the region.

“I was living inside an uncompleted building in that place but I could not endure anymore because I was hungry. I now came out and somebody looked for my trouble.

“The Hausa boy then used something like knife to cut my hand, out of anger I took a screw driver and stabbed him. That’s how they took us to police station.

METRO: I caught my wife sleeping with men on several occasions, man claims

METRO: I caught my wife sleeping with men on several occasions, man claims

A divorce-seeking husband has accused his wife of serial adultery, saying he had caught her with men on several occasions.

Ahmed Afolabi had dragged his second wife, Mariam, to court, alleging, among other things, that he rented one-room apartment for her, but that Mariam preferred sleeping around in her friends’ apartments where different men had sexual intercourse with her.

“In fact, I caught her on several occasions in one of her friends’ apartments,” Ahmed told the court.

The President of Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, Mr. Ademola Odunade, on Monday dissolved the four-year marriage between Mariam and Ahmed.

While the case was being heard, the couple also disclosed that their genotypes were capable of making them have children with sickle cell disorder, hence the need for them to go their separate ways.

In her petition, Mariam who resides at Iyana-Lodge Street, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, told the court that her genotype did not match that of her husband.

“After I had settled down into the marriage with Ahmed, I realised that both of us have the same genotype which is AS, a situation that had made it difficult for us to produce healthy children.

“According to advice by our medical doctor, if both of us continue in the relationship, we might produce children with Sickle Cell Disease.

“Already, the only child we have has started manifesting signs of a sickle-cell patient,” Mariam told the court.

She also accused Ahmed of not fending for her and their child, adding that the attendant starvation had become unbearable.

“He does nothing about our material needs in addition to constantly quarrelling with me.

“Without wasting the time of this court, I don’t have feelings for Ahmed any longer, please, separate us,” Mariam said.

Ahmed, who resides at Alegun-Fatosi Area of Ibadan, did not oppose Mariam’s suit, while he also did not deny the allegations she levelled against him.

He, however, said Mariam was a wayward wife who was unfaithful to him.

“Mariam is my second wife and I rented a room apartment for her. But she was sleeping around in her friends’ apartments where different men kept having sexual intercourse with her.

“In fact, I caught her on several occasions in one of her friends’ apartments,” Ahmed said.

While advising intending couples to know each other’s genotype before eventually settling down for marriage, Judge Odunade dissolved the union between Ahmed and Mariam.

“Therefore, in the interest of peace and order, the court has put an end to the union between Mariam and Ahmed.

“Mariam is granted the custody of the four-year-old child produced by the union.

“Ahmed shall pay a monthly-feeding allowance of N5,000 to Mariam for the upkeep of the child, in addition to being responsible for her education and other welfare,” Odunade said.

METRO: Union Warns Nigerians To Beware Of Escaped Lions

METRO: Union Warns Nigerians To Beware Of Escaped Lions

The Gauteng Province chapter of Nigeria Union on Monday urged Nigerians living in the area to adopt safety measures following the escape of five lions in the area.

Warrant Officer Jan Esterhuysen, the Rural Safety Coordinator of Fochville in Western Johannesburg, said the lions escaped from an unknown sanctuary on Saturday.

“We responded to a distress call and were surprised to see a pride of five lions in a farm at Fochville busy feeding.

“We identified a large male and four smaller lions. Tracking them at night was difficult,” he said.

Esterhuysen said nature conservation and other role players were converging on the area to assess the situation.

Mr Trust Owoyele, the Vice Chairman of the union in the province, disclosed in Johannesburg, South Africa, that the body had received information about the missing lions.

“We have a sizeable Nigerian population in the area.

“We advise that for now, they should stay away from farms, parks and bush because the predators could be hiding there.

“We also call on our people to be cautious of their movements in the night, especially in lonely areas because the lions have been sighted feeding on a cow in a farm,” he said.

Owoyele said that though authorities were working hard to get the lions, it was important that Nigerians in the area adopt safety measures.

Mr Emeka Ezinteje, Secretary General of the union, said that the national secretariat was aware of the development in the area.

He also urged Nigerians to be conscious of the missing lions and be cautious in their movements.

“The union appeals to relevant authorities to assist in capturing the missing animals as quickly as possible,” he said.

In July, four male lions escaped from the Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga Province.

They were later spotted at a private farm near the park.

METRO: VIDEO: "I'm not a ritual killer, I only killed the 8-yr-old girl after raping her," Ifeanyi Dike cries out

Suspected ritual killer, Ifeanyichukwu Maxwell Dike, who escaped from the custody of the Rivers State Police Command, last month, has revealed how he managed to get to Jos, after been rearrested by the Plateau State Police Command.

Dike, a 300-level Physics student at the University of Port Harcourt, was apprehended by a vigilante group on his way to dispose off the body of 8-year-old Victory Chikqmso, whom he allegedly kidnapped, raped and murdered. .

He, however, escaped at the state CID, barely 24 hours after being paraded. But the Plateau State Police Commissioner, Mr. Peter Ogunyanwo, said the culprit was rearrested in Jos, after breaking into a house in Barkin Ladi to steal. The suspect allegedly broke into the home of an unnamed resident and stabbed him in what appears to be a robbery incident.

Dike while speaking with journalists, said he travelled to Jos from Port Harcourt through a trailer that loaded goods to Jos. “I came to Jos on August 21, 2017 because I was trying to run away from the alleged ritual offense I was said to have committed, but I am not a ritual killer.

I only had sex with the girl and cut off her body while trying to escape from the environment, but I am not a ritual killer,” he said.

While speaking on why he was arrested trying to robbed a house in Barkin Ladi he said: “I thought it was an abandoned house because I was looking for a place to hide so that people will not identify me, but unfortunately the owner was in the house and he raised alarm then I was arrested.”
